The Importance of Breastfeeding your Baby PDF Print E-mail
Story by Cynthia
Pregnancy & Motherhood

During your pregnancy you will be faced with a very important decision which is how you will feed your baby. There are two options, you can either breastfeed or use formula. Although using formula is "easier" for some moms, it does not compare to all the health and medical benefits that breastfeeding provides.

Breastfeeding is truly one of the most important things you can do for your new baby. It creates a special closeness between a mother and her baby. Breast milk is always available and unlike formula does not need any preparation, and best of all it doesn't cost anything.

There is a lot of proof of the great benefits breastfeeding provides for not only the baby but the mother as well. Breast fed babies have stronger immune systems and are protected from allergies, ear infections, respiratory problems like asthma, and gastrointestinal issues. Moms who breastfeed benefit as well, they are less stressed and loose those unwanted baby pounds much faster.

breastfeedingFor many first time moms the process goes smoothly, for others it can take some practice and patience. It is important not to give up and if having difficulty consult your doctor before you leave the hospital.

If you continue to have problems you can ask your pediatrician for tips and advice. There are support groups and lactation specialists available and your doctor can give you a referral if needed.

While I am all for breastfeeding, I disagree about the asthma and allergies thing. My mother breast-fed me and I have asthma and I'm allergic to penicillin. Other than that statement you made, I completely agree that breastfeeding has many benefits. It also lowers a child's risk of being obese or overweight. When I have my child, I will breastfeed though as I know there are many benefits to doing it as opposed to making formula^_^

Breastfeeding is very important. And a lot easier, but you have to remember not all mom's can breast feed. There's moms were they try to breastfeed, and the baby doesn't want it, or the milk dries up. Not all women are the same. But I do agree with you that breastfeeding is the best solution for a baby. When I have kids, I hope to breastfeed but if i can't, I can't....
