Beware of Yaz Birth Control PDF Print E-mail

When my boyfriend and I decided we were ready to have sex, I talked to my mom about going on birth control.  She wasn't happy about my decision and felt I should wait before taking such a huge step.  I was 17 then and practically an adult, plus my mind was already made up.  My mom was relieved I didn't have unprotected sex and she scheduled a visit at the gynecologist's office.  After Googling various birth control options I decided to go on the pill.  The gynecolgist prescribed Yaz, but she emphasized that birth control pills do not protect against sexually transmitted diseases like Aids and told me my boyfriend needed to use condoms every time we had sex.

I began taking the Yaz birth control pills right away but I waited two months to have sex for the first time.  About six months after I started taking Yaz I became a totally different person. I was usually a happy go lucky person but while on Yaz, I  became really moody and angry.  My mood swings were so out of control, I felt like I was losing my mind. I cried uncontrollably on a daily basis.  I began having panic attacks, and became depressed because I just couldn't figure out what was wrong with me.

It got so bad my boyfriend dumped me.  He couldn't take my wild mood swings and accusations anymore. I gained weight on Yaz birth control and felt like crap about myself, so I accused him of cheating on me.  He grew tired of it and didn't want to be around me anymore.  My anger got out of control, I started throwing things around and broke lots of stuff in my room. My parents became really concerned and didn't know  what to do. They didn't understand I how I could change from the sweet girl they were used to, into the monster I became.

yaz-birth-controlMy mom and I fought constantly over every little thing.  Prior to this, we had a very close relationship, I could talk to her about everything. Back then, I said and did some awful things to her which I didn't mean.  She ended up confiding in her friends and they suggested I see a professional.  I wasn't having any of it, I refused to talk to a stranger about my problems.  Instead I went on Google and found out that many women who were on Yaz birth control pills had similar stories.

I showed my findings to my mom and she scheduled an appointment at the gynecologist's office right away. I stopped taking the pills immediately. My gyno said some of her other patients were having similar issues while on Yaz birth control. She prescribed another birth control pill to me called Alesse. After I stopped taking Yaz all my symptoms disappeared and since I am single now I did not fill my new prescription.

I'm happy to say I am back to my old self and my mom and I have since patched up our relationship. I really hope taking Yaz birth control pills didn't mess me up in the long run. I have seen commercials that Yaz is responsible for women's deaths. It causes blood clots, strokes, heart attacks, and even liver and kidney failure. I feel Yaz should be taken completely off the market. Why did my gynecologist prescribe something to me that could be deadly in the first place?

I believe that patients on Yaz need to be monitored more closely and told the horrible side effects that can come with it. The list of side effects do NOT do justice to how terrifying the side effects truly are.

I also was on Yaz and have a similar story. I was a freshmen in college and thought I couldn't handle school, my boyfriend broke up with me because I literally turned into a crazy b*tch. I was upset all the time, cried multiple times a day, everyday. I couldn't sleep, had no energy, and lost my passion for life. I was really depressed and even started having suicidal thoughts. And more than anything I was scared because I didn't know what was wrong with me.

I got off of it and in 2 weeks the crying spells stopped and I was back to my happy self. I would not recommend this birth control to anyone and wish that no one ever has to go through what I went through. I do not agree that all birth controls have the same side effects because every birth control horror story I have ever heard was about Yaz.

P.S. Bella210 I was on it for a year and a half and thought it was perfect. I never gained weight, and my acne completely cleared. So be careful still being on it because I didn't start having side effects until a year and a half of being on it and that's why I never expected my turn for the worse to be side effects from Yaz.

If doctors took everything off the market there would be nothing left to take!

First of all you shouldn't have "googled" it you should have talked about it with your gyno what your options were. YOU are the one that chose birth control pills and seeing as you like to google maybe you first should have googled Yaz before you put it into your body.
I don't think you should blame the pills. All the health risks are right there on the bottle and the pamphlet they hand out.

Yaz worked great for me and even my acne. All birth control pills have THE SAME SIDE EFFECTS, they are ALL responsible for blood clots, strokes, etc. How could you not know this if you wanted birth control pills. That's why they ask you if you smoke since if you do you are even more at risk!
