Hostility at a school PDF Print E-mail

Rants and Raves

I lived in hell for 5 months. I arrived to work at a school in September and listened to the 2 ladies (teachers) who love to gossip about everyone. One day they started saying stuff about me right in front of my face. I asked them to stop harassing me via email.

Per one of the women, the administration became aware that a problem existed between us and it was supposed to be taken care of with principal approval. The women continued gossiping and since one of them is friends with the principal they got her into it too.

They made up racial stuff about me and got all the black people there worked up. They had a black supervisor chase after me for months trying to write me up (fire me). He had a rough time as I did my work as best as possible. I brought this up to the superintendent but they were all against me. I told them that because I was Hispanic I was treated differently and all that was said about me by those women was false. The principal was in the middle of the gossip.

hostility-gossip-workThey even told students stuff about me. As one student came in heartbroken (he cared for me) and I asked what is wrong Deseante? (young African American) He said they told me that you were talking about me. I said don't listen to them you know that I care about you and have respect for you. I can't believe people like this exist. EVIL...EVIL….EVIL. They acted like they were my friends but behind my back they were trying to get me fired. I feel like I was held captive by the Ku Klux Klan (KKK).

One of the ladies saying stuff about me acted like a friend and the whole time was trying to make me say bad stuff. She would say "the students said the principal looks like a hooker today". She would say "It was hard for me to come work here as I was raised where blacks were my servants and you never brought them home". She spoke the same of Hispanics. How can people be so mean? It's all unbelievable because I am Hispanic and I love all kinds. I have friends that are white, black, Hispanic and I brought them home.

Now the principal was chasing after me too so I decided to quit. I could not take the hostility and dirty looks from everyone. I heard that a teacher was previously arrested there over a student saying that she threatened him (all false).

Your story is proof that racism is alive and kicking. You did the right thing by quitting and getting yourself out of a bad situation. I'm sure you will find another job where people are more kind to one another. Our country is in need of good teachers like yourself. Good luck to you.
